About
More than six decades after its construction, CBA’s hallowed Varsity Gym will be dedicated in honor of two basketball coaching LEGENDS: Head Coach Vinnie Cox and Head Coach Ed Wicelinski.
Together, these two men amassed almost 1,000 victories and cemented CBA Basketball as a fixture in New Jersey High School Sports. Perhaps more importantly though, they impacted the lives of hundreds and hundreds of student-athletes over their 45 years at the Academy, helping to mold them into the men they have become.
Head Coach Vincent (Vinnie) Cox arrived as CBA’s coach in 1962 and over his 18 seasons as coach, CBA would go 350-100, winning five state championships. Head Coach Ed Wicelinski took the reins of CBA Basketball in 1980, when Coach Cox retired, clearly having some big shoes to fill. Over the next 27 seasons, the man affectionately known as Coach “Wiz” won 635 games, which remains the most ever by a coach at one school in all of Monmouth and Ocean counties. CBA was admitted to the Shore Conference for the 1982-83 season and Coach Wiz went on to win 14 Shore Conference titles during his tenure, adding three state championships and nine sectional titles.
Christian Brothers Academy is blessed to have so many wonderful people as part of our community. Coach Cox and Coach Wicelinski represent two of the very best. Please save the weekend of September 20 and 21, 2024 for the dedication ceremony and celebration of these two legends. And please join me in wholeheartedly congratulating Coach Cox and Coach Wicelinski on this well-deserved honor!
