About
Christian Brothers Academy mourns the loss of Dan Keane, longtime teacher and coach, who passed away peacefully on Thursday.
Keane became a fixture in the history department after joining the CBA faculty in 1977, spending nearly 40 years in the classroom before retiring in 2016.
Of course, Coach Keane left an indelible mark on CBA Athletics during his long tenures as the head varsity soccer coach and head varsity tennis coach.
Under his leadership, varsity soccer won 545 games, five state championships, and nine Shore Conference titles, while varsity tennis notched over 600 match wins and 16 state championships - including stretches of seven straight from 1980 to 1986 and eight straight from 1988 to 1995.
“I’m really a proud reflection of the players and coaches of both programs,” Keane said in 2015 when he announced his retirement. “It’s just been a great opportunity and I’ve been very fortunate. As long as they [the students] feel good about themselves, I’m happy.”
Most recently, Coach Keane was back on campus in September to have CBA’s new turf field officially dedicated as “Keane Field.” His legacy will live on through the student-athletes who benefit from the field that bears his name.
A CBA Hall of Fame inductee, Keane will forever be remembered by both his students and his players for his easy-going personality, infectious smile, and sage advice.
We will certainly miss you, Coach. All of us will “ease into the weekend” in your memory.
